Coordinators:
EDUCATE THE
CONGREGATION |

-
Teach people to
evacuate – why, as Christians, they need to do this
-
BUT – for people
who are able-bodied and can stay…
-
Encourage people
to stay and volunteer in shelters, prepare for immediate
response
-
Encourage people
to prepare for a hurricane for themselves and for their
neighbors (food and water for their neighbors who didn’t
prepare…) They are either in a place where they need to be
helped or they are prepared to help others
-
Prepare people to
minister Jesus
-
Teach people to
talk about Jesus, offer to pray, etc. (not either end –
not hard sell evangelism, but not ignoring the words and
spiritual help)
-
This is not a “the
church is taking care of it” project – this is an “all hands
on deck” project. You won’t have too many volunteers!
-
Encourage them to
have their unchurched friends take part
-
What individuals
and small businesses can do (“What I Learned From Four
Hurricanes”)
-
What would God have
them do (creativity – treats and special things were truly
special)?
-
Prepare the Church
to be a “shelter” for those in need (not literally a
hurricane shelter,
but a place to go sit, have a meal, get some help, talk to
someone, pray with someone, get information,…)
-
Church members can
collect all year, for donation: 2nd level items like radios,
camping stoves, tarps, lanterns etc. as well as 1st level
items like food staples, baby goods etc.
-
They can find out
about their neighbors – the elderly and the “special needs”
-
They can hand out
hurricane preparation lists to their neighbors
