THE NEED:
If a hurricane actually strikes this county, there will be no
electricity, many people will have no way of preparing food,
the stores and restaurants will all be closed, and people will
literally be without food. A prepared meal is an amazing
ministry to people who have nowhere to turn and an amazing
blessing to those eating out of a can.
VOLUNTEER NEEDS:
Anyone who likes to serve people with a smile and servant’s heart
THE PLAN:
To daily serve prepared meals whether pancakes and sausage, hamburgers
and hotdogs, or spaghetti to your neighborhood
PRE-HURRICANE:
- Determine the means of cooking
without electricity (e.g. grills…)
- Make a plan (i.e. we will serve
one meal a day…)
- Plan on serving large numbers of
people
- Realize stores could be closed for
up to a week
- Stock up on the necessary
supplies, store in a safe place, but don’t store all in one
place, unless you know that it is totally hurricane safe
- Do what pre-cooking preparation is
needed (it’s easier now than then)
- Plan on also serving out of town
volunteers and county disaster responders
PERSONAL EXPERIENCE:
This is an amazing ministry and greatly appreciated. A few days of MREs
or peanut butter makes a freshly cooked hamburger or a plate
of spaghetti look and taste like a feast. The smile, a
servant’s heart, a few caring words… People remember. |
